Wrangel Tower is one of Kaliningrad's main landmarks. Inside is a city history museum exploring periods from the earliest history to modern times.
Architect Friedrich August Stuler designed the tower, which is 31 metres high with a base diameter of 14 metres. Built of brick, it has eight floors, each suitable for storing gunpowder and ammunition.
Visitors can climb to the top floor for panoramic views of the city.

History
1853
Wrangel Tower was built on the site of an earlier fortress protecting Konigsberg. Prussian King Friedrich Wilhelm IV commissioned it to strengthen the city's defences.
Wrangel Tower has a twin, Dohna Tower. Together, the towers were intended to defend Upper Lake, considered the weakest point in the defensive system.
1914
The tower served various purposes over the years: a military store during the First World War and a Konigsberg history museum between the wars.
1945
The tower suffered serious damage during the Second World War. Soviet troops captured Kaliningrad in 1945, and Dohna Tower was also damaged during the fighting.
