About Fishing Village

Fishing Village is an ethnographic, retail and craft complex in central Kaliningrad, on Oktyabrsky Island, formerly Lomse, beside the Pregolya River. It is one of the city's most popular places for walks and relaxation among residents and visitors alike.

Fishing Village recreates the style of pre-war Konigsberg in East Prussia. Its lamps, cobbled streets and benches look as though they have travelled from the Middle Ages into modern Kaliningrad.

What to see

Honey Bridge

Honey Bridge

Honey Bridge connects Oktyabrsky and Kant islands. It was originally one of the seven bridges whose construction began in the East Prussian capital in the 14th century, when the islands were called Lomse and Kneiphof. Rebuilt in the late 19th century, it received hydraulic machinery and became a drawbridge. Today, it is mainly pedestrian, with vehicle access limited to services for Kant Island and the Cathedral.

According to legend, the bridge owes its name to the chief burgrave Besenrode. In 1542, he is said to have bribed the city council by sending barrels of honey to Kneiphof Town Hall so that the bridge would be built beside his thriving honey shop. Other versions describe the honey as payment for permission to open a shop, or suggest that he simply bought himself a bridge. Kneiphof's residents became known as honey-lickers, and the bridge as Honey Bridge.

Wooden Bridge

Wooden Bridge

This historic bridge dates from 1404. Numerous timber warehouses once stood nearby. It was rebuilt in the early 20th century and strengthened later. A 2017 reconstruction added a wrought-iron railing reproducing the original 15th-century design.

Jubilee Bridge

Jubilee Bridge

Jubilee Bridge was built to mark Kaliningrad's 750th anniversary, using the supports of the Imperial Bridge destroyed during the war. It connects Oktyabrskaya and Epronovskaya streets and has three spans, decorative railings and ornate lamps. The bridge is 70 metres long and 6 metres wide. It opens to allow vessels through, with its lifting machinery housed in the nearby bridge keeper's building.

Fishing Village waterfront

The waterfront is Fishing Village's most impressive feature. Hotels styled after historic buildings stand alongside cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops, with wonderful views over the river and local landmarks.

Lighthouse Tower

Lighthouse Tower

Built in 2006, the lighthouse-style tower is 33 metres high. Two sculptures stand near its entrance: a sailor with a monkey on a bench and a young innkeeper inviting visitors inside. The tower's 133 steps lead to the glazed Rendezvous viewing platform. Just below it is an open platform with panoramic views over the Pregolya River, the Cathedral, the Synagogue and the House of Soviets.
